Angela Edward is a Micronesian-American daughter and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is an activist with powerful experience serving persons from marginalized communities. Angela holds a Master of Social Work from Missouri State University, a Bachelor of Arts from Siena Heights University, and an Associates Degree in Liberal Education. In the past decade, Angela has worked with families facing homelessness, young people, community elders, persons diagnosed with comorbidities, individuals impacted by mental illness, and with Asian American & Pacific Islander community members.
Angela has served hundreds of women, youth, families and community members through direct services and advocacy in the United States over the past two years. Angela is dedicated to honoring her ancestors through community healing, civic engagement, youth advocacy and empowerment, and community organization with and for the Micronesian community.
Angela was born here in the U.S. and strongly identifies as Micronesian because although Angela is half white, she is cognizant that when she walks into a room, people see brown skin and therefore, she is representing the Micronesian community. Angela is straddling two worlds and her goal is to be a bridge to help acclimate (not assimilate) Micronesians who want to live and succeed on U.S. soil.
Currently, Angela works by day as a Clinical Social Worker with elders. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Spring Arbor University (currently teaching Interviewing to BSW students) and also works part-time at a local clinic as a Social Worker and also part-time with youth for APIA (Asian Pacfiic Islander American) Vote Michigan. She plans civic engagement and service learning activities with and for youth to encourage being connected and active in the community.
As of late, Angela is also hosting and producing a podcast to highlight Micronesian voices (titled For Micronesians By Micronesians). Much of Micronesian history is passed through generations vocally (talking stories) and Angela is excited to have a platform where Micronesians can continue a similar fashion that combines Micronesian-tradition in the space of the new world we live in.
